So, you're gearing up for a fabulous boudoir photoshoot? That's amazing! At Philocaly, we absolutely love when women come in to find the perfect lingerie for their boudoir sessions. Fun fact: Philocaly was born because our owner is a boudoir photographer and saw a need in our community for a lingerie boutique! Boudoir is all about feeling confident and empowered and it starts with choosing the right photographer for you. To make sure you have the best experience possible, here are 11 essential questions to ask your boudoir photographer before booking your session:
1. What is your photography style?
- Ok, this may not be a question you ask them exactly, but this is something to research. Every photographer is different and "boudoir" is subjective. Understanding their style helps you determine if it aligns with your vision and comfort level. Check out their website and social media.
2. How do you ensure privacy and confidentiality?
- Boudoir is a highly intimate experience. Ensure your photos are kept as private and secure as you prefer before, during and after your session.
3. Who will be taking the photos?
-Don't assume that the person on the website or that you are talking to on the phone is the one who will be photographing you. Some studios have multiple photographers to serve their customers. So make sure all the questions you are asking apply to the photographer you will be working with such as seeing their portfolio, etc.
4. What can I expect to spend?
- Costs can vary vastly based on the experience of the photographer. Make sure you understand the pricing completely before booking. Understanding the costs involved helps you budget for the session.
-Some photographers may not give you complete pricing until you have done a consultation to ensure they give you an accurate information. Most will have a starting price on their website to give you a starting point.
5. Do you provide hair and makeup services? If so,what is the cost?
- Some photographers offer these services to help you look and feel your best. Others will expect you to arrive with this already done.
-An experienced makeup artist can cost $100+ so make sure to include this in your budget.
6. Who will be present during my session?
- Knowing who will be present helps you feel more at ease. Some photographers have an assistant or other staff in the studio.
-Will other sessions be going on at the same time?
7. What is your editing process like?
- Understanding the editing process gives you an idea of who will have access to your images and how much editing will be done.
-Ask if editing is an additional cost.
8. How will the photos be delivered and when can I expect to receive them?
- Delivery methods can include digital files, prints, or albums. All products take time to edit and design, print products may take longer to produce.
9. How far in advance should I book?
- In-demand photographers can be booked out months in advance so give yourself plenty of time especially if you are doing your shoot as a gift for a special occasion.
10. What is your rescheduling or cancellation policy?
- Policies on rescheduling or cancellation are important for flexibility.
11. Can you guide me on posing?
- A good photographer will help you with poses that flatter your body.
-Make sure when you look through their portfolio that they have a variety of body shapes and sizes that are posed in flattering ways.
Additionally, make sure you check out the reviews on google or facebook for true reviews of the studios services. Most professional photographers will have you sign some sort of contract, make sure you read it and understand it and ask questions if you don't. Remember the contract should protect the photographer but also you as the consumer.
By asking these questions, you can ensure you select a boudoir photographer who meets your needs and makes you feel comfortable and confident.
